Unlock Working Capital

Businesses in the trucking, transportation, and freight industry often experience cash flow issues due to their customers requiring Net 30-60 payment terms. Freight companies can’t wait weeks for payment when they need to pay for fuel, cover payroll, and other business expenses. Freight factoring is a type of financing that can help transportation companies get paid at the completion of service and improve their cash flow. We also offer the following types of factoring for the freight industry

What Is Freight Factoring?

Freight factoring, a type of invoice factoring, involves selling your unpaid freight invoices to a factoring company. Rather than having to wait for your customer to pay an invoice, you get an immediate cash advance. Freight companies, including trucking, 3PL warehousing, and intermodal rail can use factoring to unlock capital, which can be used for overhead expenses including fuel, employees, maintaining vehicles, and other purposes.

How Freight Factoring Works

Factoring involves three parties: your trucking company, your customers, and the factoring company. Here are the steps involved in factoring freight invoices to get your business the working capital it needs to fund your business forward.

  • Once you complete a service, submit the unpaid invoice that you want to factor. You may arrange to factor some or all of your invoices.
  • You receive a cash advance. Depending on the terms of the factoring company, you may get 95% or more of the invoice’s face value. Freight factoring advances tend to be higher than in other industries.
  • Your customer sends payment to the factoring company. Since you’ve sold the invoice to the factoring company, clients pay them rather than you.
  • You receive the remainder of the invoice value, minus a factoring fee.

Freight Factoring Success Story

Benefits of Freight Factoring

There are several benefits of freight factoring for trucking and freight companies. Here are a few of the most common benefits.

  • Make payroll and other expenses more easily. With consistent cash flow, it’s easier to pay your employees and make bill payments on time.
  • Grow your business. When you have cash flow problems, you can’t invest in hiring employees, buying and maintaining trucks, marketing, and other costs. Factoring provides you with capital that can be used to grow your business.
  • Reduce time devoted to collections. When you factor invoices, the factoring company becomes your partner for tasks such as collections. You and your staff can refocus on other activities.
  • Get financing without going into debt. Unlike loans, factoring doesn’t impact your credit. You don’t have to worry about taking on debt. You can use your improved cash flow to pay off existing debts.
  • Get customer credit checks. Factoring companies run credit checks on your customers to make sure they are creditworthy. You can find out if potential new clients are reliable without having to do your credit checks.
